About 1943, Lee Roy asked to be reassigned to Georgetown, KY so his oldest son, Bud, could attend Georgetown College. He was studying to be a preacher. Lee Roy continued as a linesman with Bell Telephone.
Tragedy struck in 1948, just five days before Christmas. Lee Roy drowned in a rain swollen Elkhorn Creek outside Georgetown, KY. At 42 years old, Jasmine suddenly became an unemployed widow.
Jasmine remained in Georgetown for the remainder of her life. She settled into an office clerk job in a state building in Frankfort, KY. Her children married and most lived not far from her. They often gathered for Sunday dinners. Everyone in the family called her "Nanny".
Jasmine traveled to see her sister, Bess, in Pineville, and her sister Annie and brother Asher who lived in Alabama. She went to Florida, Arizona, Mexico and even Africa (twice).
Jasmine is buried in the Georgetown Cemetery, next to her husband.
