John Philip Schlimper, 74, was received by his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Tuesday, October 16, 2012 after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. John was born on April 3, 1938 in Port Arthur, Texas and raised his family in Houston. He later retired in San Augustine, Texas. He loved and was loved and his powerful presence will be forever missed. He is preceded in death by his father, Rudy Schlimper, his step-mother, Addie Lee Schlimper and brother, Paul Schlimper, father-in-law, Sam Choate, mother-in-law, Merle Choate, brother-in-law, Sam Winston Choate and step-father, Jewel Thomas.
He is survived by his wife, Charlotte Schlimper; their oldest son and daughter-in-law, Philip and Glenda Schlimper of Katy; their son, daughter-in-law and granddaughters, Keith, Paula, Heather and Christina of Fort Worth; their daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren, Stephanie, Gary, McKenzie, Ava Grace and Hunter Loveless of Houston; his mother, Phyllis Thomas of Natchez, Mississippi; sister-in-law, Kathy Schlimper of Elgin; sister-in-law, Ava and Frank Beall of Sulphur, Louisiana; step-brother, Bill and Helen Ransom of Austin; his adopted family Ryan, Yolanda, Hannah and Zack of San Augustine; extended family, Silvia Gonzalez of Houston; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews and countless treasured friends.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. Thursday, October 18, 2012 at Second Baptist Church in the Hankamer Chapel, 6400 Woodway Drive, Houston, Texas with Funeral services beginning at 2:00 P.M.
A service and interment will be held Saturday, October 20, 2012 in San Augustine, Texas.
