"Max" Thompson Chennault, 86, Fayetteville, died Aug. 1, 2001.
He was born Oct. 2, 1914 in Kilbourne, La. He was the son of Nell Thompson Chennault and Gen. Claire Lee Chennault, commanding officer of the Flying Tigers of China during World War II.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Anne Lancaster Chennault, and in 1988, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Jo Anne Edwards and granddaughter, Ana Edwards.
He was a 1938 graduate of Auburn University in Aviation Management and was a flight dispatcher with Southern Airways, now Northwest Airlines, for 27 years. He was an honorary lifetime member of the American Volunteer Group and an honorary member of the Confederate Air Force. He was a charter member of the Canongate Golf Club and a member of the Fayetteville United Methodist Church. Services were at North Fayette United Methodist Church with the Rev. Franklin Long officiating.
Interment was at Sherwood Memorial Park, Jonesboro.
Survivors include his wife of six years, Edna Wells Chennault, Fayetteville; his children, Maxine Chennault Wells and T. J. Nelson, Houston, Texas, Patricia Chennault Sloan, Martha Chennault and Robert Rogers, Rod and Cherie Chennault, Maria Chennault and Donnie Smith, all of Fayetteville, and Michael and Nancy Chennault, Spring, Texas. There are 18 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brothers, Pat Chennault and Robert K. Chennault, both of Ferriday, La.; and sisters, Peggy Lee, Calif., and Rosemary Simrall, W. Monroe, La.
