Jeannetta De Jong was born on July 2, 1923 to John L. and Carrie Vander Molen Veenstra near Peoria, Iowa. She passed away Monday, December 12, 2011 at the age of eighty-eight at the Oskaloosa Care Center.

Jeannetta received her early education at the Peoria Christian Grade School where she completed the eighth grade. Until the time of her marriage she lived with her family on a farm near Peoria.

On August 28, 1946 she was united in marriage with Henry W. De Jong at the Peoria Christian Reformed Church. This was the first marriage to take place in the church. At that time all other couples were married at the home of their parents. To this union four children were born: Myron, Cathy, Mary, and Junior. The family lived on a farm near Peoria until Jeannetta and Henry moved to Pella in 1979.

Jeannetta was a member of the Second Christian Reformed Church in Pella. She was also a member of the Ladies Aid at her church. She was proud of her family and loved being a homemaker. She enjoyed taking care of her flowers and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of sixty-five years, Henry; her children and their spouses: Cathy and Gregg De Young, Mary and Richard Teachout, and Junior and Linda De Jong; her daughter-in-law, Marcia De Jong; fourteen grandchildren; and twenty-five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Myron in 1994; her siblings and their spouses: Lambert and Cornelia Veenstra, Grace and John Van Wyk, Ben and Gretta Veenstra; and a great-grandson, Collin De Vries.

Jeannetta will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She will be missed by her family and friends.
