NORMANDUS NELSON Senior
Born in Litchfield, Herkimer CO NY in 1798 came to Chautauqua CO NY in 1818. He settled in Busti, upon the farm of Frank DAVIS, later owned by Samuel GOURLEY., later moving to the farm of J J. MEREDITH. He had 4 daughters all of whom became school teachers, One of the daughters, Wealthy A. NELSON went to California as a teacher in 1846, 3 yrs before the discovery of gold there. Mr. NELSON’S activities in agriculture included, dairying, cheese making, and the raising of horses. He succeeded Squire PLUMB as owner of an adjoining farm. Mr. NELSON was a man of splendid physique, (extremely handsome) an excellent citizen, He was a cousin of Stephen A. DOUGLAS.
Mrs. NELSON manufactured cloth as did one of her neighbors, Mrs. PRIDE,
Mr. NELSON died of an injury in 1864. He was an outstanding citizen of the pioneer period in Busti.
