Eagle Creek resident and former Salem resident, Irma Cox, died on Sunday, November 25, 2012. She was 94. A celebration of life service will be held 2pm, Thursday, November 29, 2012 at Estacada Funeral Chapel. A private family interment is at Willamette National Cemetery. Irma Elizabeth Dyess was born November 10, 1918 in Robertsdale, Alabama to Elijah and Martha (Mosley) Dyess. She joined the Navy WAVES in 1943 and trained at Hunters College in New York. She later was stationed at Charleston, South Carolina where she helped administer penicillin to the first human patients. She was transferred to Hawthorn, Nevada ammunition depot where she observed a Japanese balloon pass by. She was honorably discharged in 1945. Irma met Paul Cox at the USO before she went into the service. He was in the Army and she was in the Navy when they were married on October 21, 1944 in Neosho, Missouri. After the war, Paul brought Irma to Condon, Oregon and settled in Salem in 1974. Paul died in 2007. She moved to Eagle Creek shortly after. She loved to garden, sew and cook. She was known for her cinnamon rolls and won best of show at the 1960's Prineville County Fair. Irma attended the Estacada First Baptist church and was a long time member of the American Legion Post 149 in Salem. Survivors include her sons Lyle William Cox of Bend, OR, Dale Anthony Cox (Mary) of Eagle Creek; daughter, Paula Lynn Osborn (Glen) of Albany, Oregon; grandchildren, Tami (Tom), Jesse, Jacob (Rachel), Joshua (Sarah), Trevor (Samantha) Alaina and Shayla; great grandchildren Laura, Cole, Jubilee, Logan and Liberty. Irma felt flowers were for the living so in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Estacada First Baptist Church or the International Essential Tremor Foundation PO Box 14005 Lenexa, KS 66285-4005
