Ralph D. Griffin, former resident of Edwardsville, died Monday in Palm Beach, Fla., after a brief illness from a heart attack. Mr. Griffin and his wife, the former Julia West Hadley of this city, were on a vacation in Florida when he became ill.
Mr. Griffin was born in Maywood, Ill., July 18, 1878, the son of George W. and Estelle Burley Griffin. He is survived by his wife, two sons, Dustin H. Griffin and W.L. Hadley Griffin, both of St. Louis; two daughters, Mrs. Edward Halloran of Chicago and Mrs. Julian Cale of San Marino, Calif.
From 1934 until his retirement in 1954, Mr. Griffin was associated with Mercantile Commerce Bank & Trust Co. and the Mercantile Commerce National Bank, both of St. Louis. Prior to 1934 he was associated with Wilder & Co. of Chicago and the International Shoe Co. of St. Louis.
At the time of his death he was a director of the Mercantile Commerce National Bank of St. Louis, the Bank of Edwardsville, and Hunter Packing Co., East St. Louis. He was a former treasurer of the St. Louis Grand Opera guild and of the University club of St. Louis.
A 32nd degree Mason, he resided at 4399 McPherson in St. Louis. Funeral arrangements will be announced later.
