Fred Meier, life time resident of this county, passed away at his home, 725 Hillsboro Avenue, this city, at 12:20 o'clock Sunday. He had been ill for nearly a year and a half. Death was due to complications.
Funeral services will be Wednesday afternoon at 1 o'clock from the residence and at 2 o'clock at the Trinity Lutheran Church. The Rev. E.W. Jahn will have charge and will be assisted by Rev. C. Lange of Troy. Interment will be made in the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery.
Mr. Meier was born on a farm in Collinsville Township, September 25, 1859. His parents were Hans and Elizabeth Meier. His childhood was spent there and he attended the Pleasant Ridge School. He was married to Mary Bertels December 13, 1883 at Dorsey, Ill. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Edwardsville. Mr. Meier had resided here for a number of years. At the time of his death he was 71 years, 4 months and 1 day.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary Meier, three daughters, Mrs. Carl Langreder, Troy; Mrs. W.F. Bohland, Mrs. Wm. Kirchhoff, of Collinsville; two sons, Fred H. Meier, John E. Meier, both of Troy, three brothers, Charles Meier, Oklahoma City, Okla., Edward Meier, Troy, Louis Meier Maryville, two sisters, Mrs. Mary Brunworth and Mrs. T.W. Lange of this city, six grandchildren and a number of nephews and nieces.
