They had 3 sons: James William, b: ll/18/1873, he married Elizabeth Hendrix on 10/13/1895; Samuel Amos, b: 4/11/1875, he married Carolyn Elizabeth Lindley on 1/25/1922; McIntyre Eugene "Mack" b: 9/20/1877, He was a criminal lawyer, he married Inez Bowden on 12/28/1905. All of their children were born in Washington County, TX. William Gates died soon after Mack was born. McIntyre is buried in Huntsville, TX Memorial # 16733547
Mattie married a second time to William Rowe and he died soon afer they were married, no children were born to this union. Then, she married Henry Columbus Sandel on 12/23/1883 in Roans Prairie, TX. They had two children: Ora Lindley, b:4/19/1885 she married Hugh Hill Young, Ora and Hugh had 2 daughters; Lyndall married Chester Higgs and Ora Lindley who married Allan Kraft. Mattie and Herny's second child was a son, Henry Naul, b: 2/26/1989, he was mayor of Navasota as well as worked for the I & GN railroad for many years, he married Annie Greenwood on 12/31/1911, they had one son Henry Naul, Jr. b: 11/3/1912 and he married Grace Clark on 6/4/1934.
