Sister Louise (Anne) French, BVM, 91, of Mount Carmel, died Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2009, at Caritas Center.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28, in the Marion Hall Chapel, Mount Carmel. Burial will be in the Mount Carmel Cemetery. Friends may call from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Marian Hall Chapel, where there will be a prayer service at 11 a.m. The Hoffmann-Schneider Funeral Home, 1640 Main St., is in charge of arrangements.

Sister Louise was a professor of philosophy at Clarke College, Dubuque, and Mundelein College and Loyola University, Chicago. She also taught in Wisconsin, Kansas and Missouri.

She was born on June 23, 1918, in Indianapolis, daughter of Adlai and Ann Marie (Burke) French.

She entered the Sisters of Charity, BVM on Aug. 31, 1940, from St. Gertrude Parish, Chicago. She made her first profession of vows on March 19, 1943, and her final profession on Aug. 15, 1948.

Surviving are nieces and nephews; and the Sisters of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, with whom she shared life for 69 years.

Memorials may be given to the Sisters of Charity, BVM Support Fund, 1100 Carmel Drive, Dubuque, IA 52003.
