Bonner Springs Chieftain, Piper Items, December 19, 1907:
Mrs. Albert Bettis, formerly Dora Wussow, died at the home of her mother, Mrs. Fred Wussow, Thursday, December 12, at 2 a.m. after many months of suffering from dropsy and heart trouble. Mrs. Bettis was born at Leavenworth, Kansas, January 25, 1884, and at the age of ten years came to Piper with her parents. She was an earnest church worker and a member of the Piper Baptist Church, where she was at one time a Sunday School teacher. Mrs. Bettis was esteemed and loved by all who knew her, and the loss of this good woman is mourned by many. She was married October 24, 1906, to Albert Bettis, a prominent young man of this place. She is survived by a husband, mother, three brother, Emil and George of this place, and William of Cripple Creek, Colorado, and two sisters, Mrs. Joe Heller, of Basehor, and Mrs Hattie Fisher, of this place. The funeral took place from the Baptist church Thursday afternoon at 2 p.m., and the remains were laid to rest in Winter's cemetery east of town. The floral offerings were many and beautiful. We wish to extend our sincere sympathy to the bereaved husband and relatives.
John Haas and wife and Mrs. Carl Buchner, of Leavenworth, were here Thursday to attend the funeral of Mrs. Bettis.
