He was the son of Erasmus Frank and Nannie R. (Noles) Duke and married Jo Merle Young - 13 Jul 1934 - Moore Co., Tennessee.

His death certificate states he died April 20, 1946; his tombstone states he died April 20, 1945. 1946 appears to be correct. The date of publication of the newspaper containing his obituaries are proof that he died in 1946. The obituaries follow:

Funeral services for Edward Renegar Duke, 35, who died in the Lincoln County Hospital Saturday afternoon from injuries received from a dynamite explosion, were conducted Sunday afternoon. The rites were held in the chapel of Raby Funeral Home with the Rev. H. B. McConnell and R. A. Largen officiating. Burial was in the Riverview Cemetery.

The fatal accident occurred about 9:30 o'clock Saturday morning while Mr. Duke was attempting to lower dynamite into a well he was drilling ad it exploded prematurely. The well was on the farm of Clayton Scott of Petersburg and Raymond Bradford was assisting him but escaped injury. Dan Scott, son of Clayton Scott, brought Mr. Duke to the hospital here.

Mr. Duke wsa a former employee of the Rambo Motor Company where he worked for sixteen years. A native of Fayetteville, he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. E. F. Duke, Sr., and a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Jo Young Duke; two daughters, Betty Jean and Nancy Jo Duke; a son, Jackie Duke; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. F. Duke, Sr., all of Fayetteville; a sister, Mrs. Roy Hoots of Winchester; three brothers, Estill Duke, Ted Duke, and E. F. Duke, Jr., all of Fayetteville.

The rites were held in the chapel of the Raby Funeral Home with the Rev. H. S. McConnell and R. A. Largen, minister of the Church of Christ, officiating. Burial was in the Riverview Cemetery.
