Jo Merle (Young) Duke Barnes

She was the daughter of Adolphus D. and Annie Lee (Clift) Young. Her first marriage was to Edward Renegar Duke - 13 Jul 1934 - Moore Co., Tennessee; after his death, she married Gordon Lee Barnes.

A marriage which came as a surprise to their many friends was that of Miss Jo Young and Renegar Duke, both of this city, which was quietly solemnized in Lynchburg on Friday night, July 13, with Squire George Holt officiating. The attendants were the bride's mother, Mrs. A. D. Young, and Leon Derrick. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. D. Young.

She won the beauty contest and title "Miss Fayetteville" in 1933. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Duke and holds a position with Rambo Motor Company of this city. For the present, the young couple are residing with the bridegroom's parents.
