Odell W. Capps, 90, of Black Mountain went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 21, 2012.
Mr. Capps was born July 11, 1922 to the late Newton F. and Mamie Lane Capps. He had been a resident of Black Mountain for the past 46 years. Odell was a member of Black Mountain Independent Baptist Church and a veteran of the United States Navy. He was a loving man who loved his church and family. Odell was a master gardener.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two brothers, Lonnie and Billy Capps and a stepson, Hoyt Shelley.
Mr. Capps is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Capitola Murrow Capps; daughters, Patricia C. Barnhill (Dwight) of Black Mountain, Brenda C. Housand (Pete) of Marion, SC, Alice F. James (Jimmy) of Mullens, SC and Anna K. Knecht (Wally) of Moncks Corner, SC; son, Jerry W. Capps (Debbie) of Batesburg, SC; stepdaughter, Carolyn Stone of Johnsonville, SC; stepsons, Johnny Shelley of Marion, SC, Morris Shelley of New Bern, NC and James Shelley of Elgin, SC; four grandchildren, 10 step-grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life service will be held Monday, November 26, 2012 at 2:00 pm in the chapel of the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery with the Rev. Randy Keener officiating. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Buncombe County Veterans Memorial Team.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Black Mountain Independent Baptist Church, 10 Herron St., Black Mountain, NC 28711.
