Orval Blackney, the eldest son of Mr. and
Mrs. C.A. Blackney was born in Herkimer,
Kansas on August 14, 1889 and passed
away in Grand Junction, Colorado on
January 22, 1928.

He was united in marriage to Miss Arma
Boyce at Memphis, Tenn. on July 3, 1926.

At an early age he became a member of the
Methodist Church at Fairfield, Nebraska.
He received his early education in the
Marshall County public schools and the
Beattie High school. Later he graduated
from the College of Telegraphy at
Arkansas City, Kansas at the age of 19
years. He accepted his first position with
the Grand Island Railroad at Fairfield,
Nebraska, and later transferred to the
Union Pacific where he worked as a
dispatcher, until he enlisted in the World's
War at Pocatello, Idaho in the year 1917,
and at the close of the war he was serving
at a First Lieutenant in the army.

At the time of his death, he was serving as
a dispatcher with the Denver and Rio
Grand at Grand Juction, Colorado.

He was a man with a charming personality
that radiated good fellowship, friendliness
and happiness.

He was widely traveled and had friends in
practically every state in the union. His
services were often requested to assist in
handling of difficult situations, a fact
which made him recognized as a efficient
employee.

He is survived by a wife, his parents, two
brothers, Homer and Arthur Blackney; two
sisters, Mrs. T.C. Barnes and Mrs. Eli
Trosper.

Funeral services were held at the M.E.
Church with Reverend J.C. Dussair on
Thursday afternoon.

Burial was in the Frankfort Cemetery,
Frankfort, Kansas.
