JOHANN JACOB LINDERMAN SERVED IN THE AMERICAN REVOLUTIONARY WAR BETWEEN 1775-1781. HE WAS IN THE COLONIAL PENNSYLVANIA ARMY.

WILL OF JOHANN JACOB LINDERMAN ON 13 APRIL 1792, OF MONTGOMERY, ULSTER COUNTY, NEW YORK.

WIFE: CATHARINE MACLEAN AND SONS; JUSTUS, EZEKIEL, CORNELIUS, JACOB; ALSO SON-IN-LAW: PETER BENSEL (Bentzel). DAUGHTERS: ELISABETH, SARAH, CATHARINE, MARY, and PEGGY LINDERMAN.

Died: November 1792 in Montgomery, Orange, New York, USA.

As stated in the will "of the town of Montgomery, County of Ulster", at the time the will was written and recorded, he lived in Ulster county, 22 August 2016 courtesy of Steve Hatchett]

Son of Johann Justus Linderman and Anna Elizabeth Imbsweiler.

Note: His name is occasionally seen as Johan or Johann Jacob Linderman but seen on most records as Jacob Linderman. The surname Linderman in records pertaining to Jacob is listed in an early German/Dutch Church's record ( the "Harrison Meeting House") as Lindemann three times between 1761-1765, then as Lindeman five times bet. 1764-1782, then once as Linderman in 1784. It appears these are variations of spelling the pronunciation of the name. In early town records of Montgomery he is listed as Linderman bet.1767-1778, in New York State land papers of 1771 he is first listed as Lenderman, then later as Linderman. It appears that after 1782, and in a few records before, he is always seen as Linderman. The only other exception is the proved copy of his Will of April 1792, listing him as Jacob Lenderman. After this time, with only few exceptions, Jacob's descendants are all seen in local Town, County, State, and Federal records as Linderman. After extensive research, it seems apparent Jacob was the sole progenitor of all the Linderman's living in New York State up to the late 1830's, and sole progenitor of Linderman's in Up-State & Western New York up to 1850. source: 26 August 2013 courtesy of Bob Moore
