Eleanor graduated in 1940 from the University of Pennsylvania, one of the first women to graduate from the university. For more than 20 years, she was the front desk manager and sales director at the Continental Inn in Lancaster.
She was a member of Temple Beth El and Temple Shaarai Shomayim where she was past president of the Temple Shaarai Shomayim Sisterhood. She also was an officer of Deborah Hospital; regional vice president of the Conservative Jewish Movement; and founder and president of the Center Women at the Lancaster Jewish Community Center. She was a Life Master of Duplicate Bridge, which she played since 1960, served as president of the local ACBL, and ran various sectional, regional and national duplicate bridge tournaments.
Eleanor is survived by daughter Carol, wife of Michael Gleiberman, and son Barry Alboum, all of Lancaster, five grandchildren: Susie Gold of Stamford, CT; Melissa Teller of New York, NY; Rodney Gleiberman of Lancaster; Scott Alboum of Cary, NC; Jeffrey Alboum of Lancaster; and five great-grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Eleanor's funeral service at 2:30 p.m. TODAY, November 23, 2012, at Temple Shaarai Shomayim, 75 East James Street, Lancaster, PA with Rabbi Jack P. Paskoff officiating. The family will greet friends at the Temple from 1:30 p.m. until the time of the service. Interment will be at Temple Shaarai Shomayim Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Eleanor's name may be made to Temple Shaarai Shomayim, 75 E. James St., Lancaster, PA 17602, or Hospice & Community Care, P.O. Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604-4125.
