The Herald is indebted to Mrs. Cora Carlson for biographical data concerning her husband, Walter M. Carlson, whose death on December 15 was reported from Fair Play, California
Walter McKinley Carlson was born November 14, 1896, at Warren, Minnesota. He came west from his birthplace in 1925, and was employed at many odd jobs besides farming. He was married to Miss Cora Chandler, of Bonners Ferry, July 29, 1928, and two years later bought a ranch on the North Bench, where the family lived until 1940. He disposed of his local property that year and went to California, seeking a better climate for his health. He had been employed by the Wetsel Lumber company for the past two years.
Death was sudden, and was attributed to a heart attack. Funeral services were held at the Memory chapel in Placerville, California, with interment in the Union cemetery. The casket was flag-draped, Mr. Carlson having been a veteran of World War I. The six pall bearers were chosen from his fellow workers.
He is survived by his wife and four children, Eugene, 13; Warren, 10; Ellen, 7, and Benny, 2. Surviving also are his mother, of Warren, Minnesota. His father passed away October 23, 1942, at Warren. There are five surviving sisters and two brothers: Mrs. Oscar Johnson, Mrs, Roy Erickson, Mrs. Stanley Truhn and Carl Carlson, all of Warren; Mrs. Magnus Solid, Birmingham, Washington; Mrs. Harold Bostrom, Long Beach, California, and Rudolph Carlson, Mount Vernon, Washington. There are two cousins, Mrs. John Davidson and Mrs. Russell Parker, residing in Bonners Ferry.
The two brothers and an uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Thorwald Clausen, of Sacramento, and a brother-in-law, Lt. Charles Chandler, were able to attend the funeral. Mrs. Carlson's brother, Arnold Chandler, her sister Ferne Liddicoat, and her mother, Mrs. O.W. Chandler, were also present.
