Jose, a resident of El Duende, was predeceased by his wife Rose Manzanares; parents Gavino and Lucaria Manzanares; brother-in-law Daniel Salazar; 3 brothers; 2 sisters; and beloved nephew Jose Luis Martinez.

Jose was survived by his children: Esther A. Bailey and husband Robert of Santa Fe and Raymond and Abe Manzanares both of El Duende; grandchildren, Reyna Chavez and companion Jonathan Tsosie, Lucas Apodaca, Nicole Martinez and companion Jose Ortega, Rosanna Medina and husband Andres, Ray Manzanares, Jr. and companion Sonja and Martin Manzanares; 5 great-grandsons; 5 great-granddaughters and numerous other loving relatives and friends.

Jose was a hard worker, good provider and caring husband, father and grandfather. He was a US Veteran who served in the Korean Conflict.

Public visitation and Wake service were on November 21, 2012 in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory. Funeral service was on November 23, 2012 also in the Chapel of Peace of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory. Burial followed at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. Pallbearers: Abe Manzanares, Andres Medina Jr., Lucas Apodaca, Gregory Garcia, Jose Lopez, Martin Manzanares, Robert Bailey and Ray Manzanares Jr. Honorary pallbearers: Tony Garcia, Joseph Gino Valdez, Matthew Maestas, Walter Maestas, the Roybal family and Gilbert Archuleta.
