Mary Ann Strobel of Waukesha died peacefully with her loving family at her side Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2005, at Waukesha Memorial Hospital at age 70. Mary Ann was born April 8, 1935, the daughter of Theodore and Patricia (Carr) Karst.

She was an administrative assistant at Wisconsin Bell until she married Cornelius "Slim" Strobel in 1954. She and Slim are the founders and co-owners of Sussex Auto Inc. since 1963.

While raising their family, Mary Ann was very involved in her children's lives as a teacher's aide, a Girl Scout leader, family chauffeur and attending numerous school activities. She enjoyed gardening, birdwatching, bowling and word puzzles. She was an avid gardener, utilizing her cooking and baking skills to feed her family from the "fruits of her Bark Lake garden." Mary Ann was very proud of her family, and after raising their own four children, she proudly raised a second family as her own.

She will be sadly missed by Cornelius "Slim" of Sussex; her children, Neil (Diane) Strobel of Merrill, Rose Marie (Daniel) Tetzlaff of New Richmond, Victoria (Timothy) Erickson of Toledo, Ohio, and Nick (Diane) Strobel of Sussex; her second family, Karl Stolen of Sussex, Jeff (Kelli) Stolen of Saukville, Jim Stolen of Cudahy and Kirk (Marie) Stolen of San Diego. Her loving grandchildren were her pride and joy. They include Brad, Elizabeth, Doug, Jessie (Matt), Natalee, Nathaniel, Nicholas, Amanda, Nick (Shelly), Matt, Melissa, Steven, Jared and Kirk Jr. She is further survived by her devoted sister, Teddy Preiser of Waukesha, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Private family services will be held at a later date for Mary Ann.
