Margaret B. Hackbarth, age 82, of 418 Water St., Chilton, died on Saturday, Oct. 31, 1998 at her home in Chilton.
She was born Feb. 25, 1916 in Chilton, daughter of the late Michael and Mary (Diedrich) Schmidlkofer.
She married Alfred "Fritz" Hackbarth on Feb. 21, 1941 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Chilton. He preceded her in death on July 28, 1997.
She was a lifelong member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Chilton. Without a doubt Margaret is now cruising heaven with St. Anthony and St. Jude two of her favorites as she earned her "sainthood" here on earth, raising eight children in her own German-Catholic style. She was a quintessential home-maker, famous for her championship chocolate chip cookies and chicken soup to cure what ails you. Although always a "stay-at-home" at heart, Margaret put more than 200,000 miles on her latest rosary sitting on her couch in Chilton.
Survivors include eight children, Richard Hackbarth of Chilton, Kathleen (Bob) Slattery of Dousman, Karen (Doug) Bass of Mequon, Susan (Mike) Woelfel of Neenah, Nancy (Steve) Tomich of Milwaukee, Marilyn (Jim) Lenz of Green Bay, Barbara (Dan) Anderson of Pewaukee, and Janet Hackbarth of Bay View; 12 grandchildren, Robert, Daniel (Kerry) and Leah Hackbarth, David Bass and Jennifer (Gary) Cutler, Christopher and Jared Lenz, Jonathan and Brian Miller, Emily (Matt) Hunt, and Corrine and Brian Anderson; and two great-grandchildren, Olivia Hackbarth and Jacob Hunt.
She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Anita and Helen, and two brothers, Ollie and Rueben.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Chilton, with the Rev. Gregory Couthard, S.D.S., officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Friends may call at the Wieting Funeral Home in Chilton Tuesday from 1 1 a.m. until 1 :30 p.m., when family prayers will be held. A memorial fund has been established for Chilton Catholic School in the name of Margaret Hackbarth.
