Afton B. Nelson
Thermopolis – Graveside services for Afton B. Nelson, 94, of Thermopolis will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Monument Hill Cemetery by Pastor Jim LeGore of First Baptist Church.
Mrs. Nelson died May 5, 1991, at Hot Spring County Memorial Hospital.
She was born July 6, 1896, on a ranch near Vail, Ore., the daughter of John S. and Savilla (Hale) Powell Brasfield.
She moved to Thermopolis with her family in 1909 when her father helped build a portion of the Burlington Railroad.
The then moved to Bridger, Mont. In her early teens she became a cook.
On April 27, 1915, she married Orville Cover. Following their marriage she cooked and was a packer in her husband’s hunting camps. They lived in Utah, Montana and Wyoming. Mr. Cover died in 1963.
On Dec. 11, 1963, she married William B. Nelson in Thermopolis, where she lived the remainder of her life. She enjoyed hunting, fishing, needlework and sewing.
Survivors include her husband of Thermopolis; two nephews, Harold Cole of Ulm, Mont. and Franklin Cole of Lander; and two nieces, Maxine Smith of Thermopolis and Rowene St. Clair of Santa Rosa, Calif.
In addition to her first husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters and two half-sisters.
