Charles Jacob Baxter, 72, died at 11:45 p.m. Tuesday, August 10 (1971), at his home at 1601 Agency street.
A native of Louisa county, Mr. Baxter was born April 13, 1899, the son of Jacob P. and Sarah Davis Baxter. Most of his life was spent in Burlington, where he was a football star at Burlington high school.
Mr. Baxter was employed at the Rapp jewelry store for more than 55 years.
He was married to Thelma Mae Holmes in Burlington on June 2, 1942 (sic: 1924, newspaper dyslexia); she died July 8, 1961.
Mr. Baxter was a member of the United Commercial Travelers.
Surviving: Two sons, Charles H. Baxter, Springfield, Illinois, and John E. Baxter, Burlington; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild, and one brother and two sisters: Wilson G. Baxter, Sheffield; Mrs. Martha Moyer, Elk River, Minnesota, and Mrs. Edna Peck of Burlington.
Funeral: Prugh's Chapel at 2 p.m. Saturday, Reverend Gilbert A. Saathoff, Aspen Grove cemetery.
