JAMES A. SCHMIDT (Jimmy) was born June 17. 1912 in Fredericksburg, Texas and passed away peacefully on December 20, 2007 in Houston. He attended Schreiner Institute on a football scholarship and Texas university. He served in the U.S. Navy with the Pacific Fleet from 1942 to 1945. He gave thousands of hours in volunteer services at the V.A. Hospital on his return. He was a member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church serving as an usher for 50 years. He is survived by his loving wife, Estella of 68 years; his son, Dr. Jimmy D. Schmidt and wife Genie; his grandchildren, Sarah Schmidt and Charles Schmidt and wife Jennifer; his great-grandchildren, Barrett and Brandt Schmidt; and his sisters-in-law, Agnes Smith, all of Houston, and Ruth Braeutigam of Fredericksburg. Visitation will be held at Heights Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday December 26th. Funeral Services will be held at St. Marks United Methodist Church, 600 Pecore, at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, December 27th, followed by interment at Memorial Oaks Cemetery, 13001 Katy Freeway, with Reverend Dan Lewis officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to United Methodist Men, or Foundation for the Retarded at 3350 West Dallas, Houston, TX 77019.
