In 1860 he was a shoemaker and a farmer in Madison County, Arkansas

William "Billy" Pierce was born in North Carolina, moved to Henderson Co. Tennessee, married Anna McFarland, and they moved to Dallas Co. AR. Later, he lived in Madison Co. AR with his second wife, Laura Hurt.

William “Billy” Pierce was bushwhacked and killed by baldnobbers; Billy was out working in his field when the robbers overtook him at his home at Loy, Madison(was then Boone County) during the Civil War. Buried in the cemetery at Loy or on the family farm, there.

His children with Anna McFarland were: Ambrose Kendrick Pierce, Elizabeth Jane Pierce Woods Ballard, Amanda Mahalia Pierce Nutt Stover, William Toll Pierce, and Joshua Newton Pierce. His children with Laura Hurt Pierce Jones were Julia Ann Pierce Page and another who died in infancy. Julia Pierce Page was buried at Oakland Memorial Cemetery in Clarksville, Johnson Co.
