Charles married Adelaide A. Bodine on 3 Nov. 1869 in Trenton, Mercer Co., NJ.

The following obituary was contributed by Carol Foss (thanks!) from the Trenton Times, 20 Aug. 1904, p. 1:

BOTTOME--In New York City, on the 19th inst., Charles H Bottome, in the 58th year of his age. The relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the services on arrival of New York train on Sunday at 2 o'clock, at Clinton Street station. Interment at Mercer Cemetery at convenience of the family.

...died yesterday in Trinity Hospital, New York, of blood poison following an operation for the removal of his left leg. One of his toes became infected several weeks ago and gangrene developed. This necessitated the operation...leaves a widow, four sons and two daughters. He was 58 years old and moved with is family to New York about twelve years ago. Prior to that time he had conducted a furniture store on State Street and also on Warren Street.
