James H. Bell, 86, passed away Wednesday, October 19, 1966, at the Shenk Nursing Home in Wellman.

Mr. Bell was born September 10, 1880, in Johnson County, the son of John and Susan Kane Bell. His entire life was spent in this community as a farmer.

He was a life-long member of the Grace United Church of Christ, forty-six years a member of the consistory and a superintendent of the Church School for many years. He served on the Fremont Township School Board for thirty-eight years.

In April, 1905, he married Frances Petsel at Lone Tree, who preceded him in death, as did a son, Dr. Robert Bell. Surviving are a son, William, of Washington, Iowa, two daughters, Alice, of New York, and Mrs. Margaret Ogle, of LaJolla, California.

Mr. Bell was married to Genevieve Harney, June 3, 1917, in Lone Tree, who survives with two sons, Ralph of Nichols, and Ruel of San Francisco, California, one daughter, Mrs. Ardell (Rae) Chabal, Iowa City, 10 grandchildren, one brother, John of Iowa City, and one sister, Mrs. James (Margaret) Hacke, of Tucson, Arizona. Preceding him in death were three sons and one daughter, also five brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services were held in the Grace United Church of Christ Saturday, October 22, 1966, at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Roy Shaughnessy officiating, assisted by Rev. Ezra Shenk, of Wellman. Pallbearers were nephews Darrell Bell, Lester Bell, and Keith Keeler, of Lone Tree, Vincent Harney and James Harney, of Iowa City and Silliam Harney, of Oxford.

Burial was in the Lone Tree Cemetery, with Sorden & Adams in charge if the services.
