Mildred Lucile Sober West passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2012, at the Woodward Regional Hospital. She was born October 22, 1914 in Roger Mills County near Sweetwater, OK, in the farm home of her parents Hugh Wilson Sober and Bessie Lee Scott. The family moved in 1919 to a farm west of Oklahoma City. Mildred met Clovis West when he moved with his family to the Putnam City area in 1929. His father was the pastor of the Baptist Church where the Sober family were active members. Mildred and Clovis were married June 17, 1934, in the Sober home on NW 23rd Street near Oklahoma City. They celebrated their 72nd anniversary in 2006.

The evening of their wedding, the new couple drove to Duke, OK, in Jackson County in southwestern Oklahoma where they made their home until 1940. Karl, the first child, was born in their Duke, OK, home. They moved to Cleo Springs and lived there until 1947; Gerald and Janice were born during these years. Mildred and Clovis then moved to Taloga where Neil was their first child to be born in a hospital.

Mildred was active in the Home Demonstration Club, WMU, led Bible School at their church, and attended many ball games and 4-H club meetings with the children. Sewing, singing, music, and gardening were her special skills and gave her much pleasure. The last six years, Mildred lived in the Grace Living Center in Woodward. She will be remembered there for her feisty exchanges with her caregivers, and her love of Sunday church singing.

Mildred leaves her loved ones, sons Karl West of Taloga, Gerald West and wife Christel of Peachtree City, GA, and Neil West and his wife Barbara of Enid, and daughter Janice Leonard and her husband Gary of Plano, TX. Also many grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

She will be buried in Mound Cemetery south of Taloga, and is remembered dearly by her family.
