Services for Bertha E. Gaston, 94, Tyler are scheduled for 10:30 am, Wednesday, October 24 at the Cottle Funeral Home chapel, Troup with the Reverend officiating. Burial will be in the Shiloh Cemetery in the Omen Community of Smith County.
Mrs. Gaston died Sunday, October 21, 2012, in a Tyler nursing home. She was born February 23, 1918, in Parkers Landing, Pennsylvania to the late Thomas Norman Shoemaker and Florence Jane Steele Shoemaker. She was a the youngest of 10 children. She had been a resident of East Texas since 1963.
She was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church in New Chapel Hill.
In addition to her parents and all her brothers and sisters, Mrs. Gaston was preceded in death by her husband, Stephen Miller Gaston, December 30, 1937, and by a son, Stephen Michael Mike Gaston, August 21, 2006.
Survivors include a son, James Arthur Gaston of Tyler; a daughter, Wanda Ann Spears of Tyler; eleven grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
