Corp. Sidney Podhoretz was returning from furlough for his father's funeral when the B-17 Flying Fortress army bomber he was in crashed. He was stationed at Avon Park and had just been promoted the previous week to corporal. Before entering service two years ago he was employed at the pleasant Valley meat market. He is survived by three sisters, Lottie, Clara and Carol May Podhoretz and a brother, Phillip Podhoretz all of Schenectady.
