Mrs. Charles Petty
Mrs. Charles Petty, a highly respected resident of Bentinck Township passed away at her home on the second concession early Tuesday morning March 11 after an illness of four months.
She was born eighty-four years ago last December on the sixteenth concession of Normanby, and was formerly Jean Moore, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Moore. Had she lived until Saturday, March 15, she and her aged husband would have marked their fifty-ninth wedding anniversary. She attended Knox church, Normanby for a number of years but latterly has been a member of Knox United Church, Durham. She was always active in welfare work and during the two world wars was a diligent worker for the Red Cross and I.O.D.E.
Besides her husband she is survived by one son, Jack, on the home farm and five daughters, Mrs. Robert Smith (Isobel), Mount Forest; Mrs. Fred Smith (Margaret), Regina, Sask.; Marion, at home; Agnes, in Toronto and Mrs. W. L. Duggan (Grace) in Flint, Mich. Of a family of nine one sister is living Mrs. James Morris {should be Morice} (Charlotte) of Lancer, Sask.
The remains are resting at the McTavish Funeral Home, and the funeral is being held this Thursday afternoon from the Chapel. Interment will be in Maplewood Cemetery.

1947, probably a Durham newspaper
