According to Norman Dodge she was an adopted child. Hence the name.

Mrs. Augusta Babcock, aged 53 years, died Monday night at the home of her mother, Mrs. Levi W. Dodge, 394 Slocum avenue. She was the wife of George S. Babcock. The funeral will be held at 3:30 pm tomorrow at the house. Mrs. Babcock was a member of Syracuse council No. 61 Daughters of Liberty and the Patriotic Order of America.
