Robert was born in Camden in 1870. He is the second born son of Robert Bewley Welsh, 1843-1888 and Anna Josephine Smith Welsh 1848-1886. When his father died, he and his brothers and sisters were left orphans and his grandparents John and Anna Smith became his guardians. Robert died at an early age of 22.
