Channing R. Walker VIRGINIA BEACH - Channing R. Walker, 79, passed away on May 8, 2011 surrounded by his loving family. He was born Oct. 20, 1931 to the late Gladys and Elmer A. Walker in Ruppert, W. Va. His son, Channing R. Walker II preceded him in death. Mr. Walker was a member of Kempsville Baptist Church, where he was a deacon and on the Board of Gideon's International. Mr. Walker was also on the board of directors for the Tile Setters Union. He was known for his expertise in tile and marble. He was self-employed and taught tile installation at Newport News Naval Shipyard. Mr. Walker was also a veteran of the Marine Corps. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Naomi C. Walker; his daughter, Judith C. Haddox and husband Terry; two grandsons, Matthew and Nicholas Haddox, all of Virginia Beach. He is also survived by his sisters, Geri Gamboni of Lynchburg, Va., and Flora Halvorsen and husband Carl of Virginia Beach. A visitation will be held Wednesday, May 11, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Smith and Williams Funeral Home, 4889 Princess Anne Road, Virginia Beach. A celebration of life will be held Thursday, May 12, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Princess Anne Memorial Park.
