He was the son of Jonathan Low and Anne Elizabeth (Raymond) Choate.
He attended Cushing Academy, a private secondary boarding school, in Ashburnham, MA. His obituary states "in his early manhood he was in the leather business. His office for some time was at 89 State street [Boston]. He was a member of several Masonic bodies and of the Boston City Club and the Naugus Club of Wellesley Hills."
He and his wife lived in Chelsea, until a few years before his death, and summered in Plympton.
