Donald E. Frantz, age 95, of Warsaw, Indiana, passed away Wednesday, November 7, 2012, at 8:48 AM at The Hearth at Sycamore Village, Fort Wayne, Indiana. He was born April 16, 1917, in Stockwell, Indiana, to C. Earl and Alta (Farber) Frantz.
He came to Kosciusko County in June of 1958 from the Vincennes and Bluffton area. He married Mildred Gavin on December 24, 1942, in Louisville, Kentucky.
Donald served in the United States Army during World War II. He was a Battalion Commander in the 9th Armored Division He received the Purple Heart for injuries incurred during the Battle of Saipan, Mariana Islands, Asiatic Western Pacific Theater. He had an Honorable Discharge with the rank of Captain.
He was a graduate of Stockwell High School in 1935, and a graduate of Purdue University receiving a BSA Degree in 1939. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Warsaw, Warsaw Rotary Club, and a past member of the American Legion Post 49 of Warsaw.
In 1971, he was Man of The Year which was presented by the Warsaw Chamber of Commerce. He served as past president of Kosciusko County Historical Society and Indiana County Extension Agents. He was appointed to the Indiana Judicial Nominating Committee. He was one of the founders of Kosciusko Community Foundation, Kosciusko Community Hospital, and Kosciusko County Soil and Water Conservation District. He was the Public Affairs Director for WRSW and an editorial writer for Times-Union for 12 years. He retired from Lake City Bank Board of Directors.
Donald is survived by his wife Mildred Frantz of Warsaw; one daughter Mary Alice Garrett of Warsaw; one son James (and spouse Nanette) Frantz of Warsaw; three grand daughters, Stephanie (and spouse Jim) McDairmant, Jennifer (and spouse Justin) Smith and Olivia (and spouse Dan) Coons; four great grandchildren, one brother and one sister. He is preceded in death by one sister and three brothers
Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, November 13, 2012, at 11:00 AM at the First United Methodist Church of Warsaw, Indiana, with Pastor Tony Carmer officiating.
Calling hours are scheduled for Monday, November 12, 2012, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 6:00 to 8:00 PM, at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw, Indiana, and on Tuesday, one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw with Military Honors by the American Legion Post 49 and the VFW Post 1126 both of Warsaw.
