BRISTOW, Jacquelyn
'Jackie' McCowan
April 16, 1925 - January 15, 2011
Jacquelyn Bristow passed away peacefully in the early hours of January 15, 2010. At the age of 85, her heart was worn out and she slipped away from us while we slept. It's hard to imagine life without her; she was small but left a big mark.

The eldest of five children of Bruce and Hilda McCowan, Jackie grew up during the Great Depression. Long before graduating from San Juan High School she exhibited an enduring gift of creativity. She taught herself to play the piano, sewed, painted and designed beautiful gardens. She loved to laugh, dance and sing. Her 40-year interest in astrology led to her publication of The Hour Guide in collaboration with her husband Reid, and also led to friendships throughout the U.S. Her greatest love, however, was cooking. She was a fearless chef who earned the title 'gourmet cook' from all who knew her.

A second-generation Sacramentan, Jackie is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, Reid; sister Mildred Matranga; and brothers, Gordon and Robert McCowan. She is also survived by her three children, Bruce Bristow (Terry Putnam), Loni (Blair) Mahan Reynolds and Alison (Mike) Raymer; grandchildren, Colin (Amanda) Mahan and Gwyneth (Gareth) Johnson. She leaves one great-grandchild, Zelda Mahan. She was predeceased by her brother Norman McCowan and her beloved grandson Sean Mahan.

Friends and family are invited to a memorial service on Friday, January 21 at 1:30 at George L. Klumpp's Chapel of Flowers, 2691 Riverside Blvd., Sacramento, CA 95818, 916-443-7917, 800-379-4566.
