He purchased a mine in Cable and two in Beaverhead County and was owner of the silver mine, Wanderer, which he purchased in 1876. From 1871-1874 he was the surgeon at the penitentiary at Deer Lodge. Dr. Whitford was the first Silver Bow County coroner.
