The community was very much saddened when the very sad news was wired to Beauley last Wednesday morning that our dear old friend, Duncan McDonald, who had gone to Detroit such a short time ago to spend the winter, had passed away Tuesday night. Mr. McDonald has enjoyed fairly good health the past year but the day he left here he caught cold and had a very bad cough which developed into pneumonia.
Mr. McDonald was united in marriage to Miss Margaret Young 45 years ago in Ontario, where they lived the first few years, then they moved to Armada, Mich., and lived there a short time, then moved to Grant Twp. where he lived and made his home for a great many years. He was a blacksmith and later he kept a general store. He was a member of the K. O. T. M. and L.O.L. lodges and a faithful member of the M E. church of Beauley ever since there was a class formed here. He had served as superintendent of the Sunday school and at the time of his departure to Detroit, he was a teacher of the men's class, which he loved so much. The neighbors and friends feel that they have indeed lost a very dear friend. His sunny face and jolly nature endeared him to all he came in contact with. The funeral was conducted by his pastor, Rev. A. E. Tinglan, from the chapeI in Cass City, and the tear-stained faces and the beautiful flowers spoke silently of the love for the one who had passed out to be with his God whom he loved and served.
Mr. McDonald's little daughter, Edie, preceded her father. Beside his sorrowing wife, he leaves three sons, Wellington of Detroit, Alva of San Francisco, Calif., and Millington in France, and three grandsons. Mrs. McDonald and sons, Welling and Alva, attended the funeral. Several relatives came as far as Detroit. It is needless to say how our hearts go out in sympathy to his loved ones at this sad bereavement, but what is their loss is his gain, for we know with Christ he has gone to reign.
