MIDLOTHIAN — Erma L. Brode, 86, a lifelong resident of Midlothian, went to be with her Lord and Saviour early Saturday morning, Nov. 12, 2005, at Saint Vincent de Paul Nursing Center, Frostburg, where she had been a resident for nearly two years. Erma was born on Feb. 13, 1919, at Midlothian, to Flora C. Duncan who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her granddaughter, Wendy Burgess. Mrs. Brode graduated from Beall High School in 1938. She worked for a brief period of time at the Frostburg sewing factory. For most of her adult life she was a homemaker, devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, and a faithful church worker. She loved Jesus and did much to advance his kingdom by doing many things in the church. For many years she was a Sunday school teacher, published the church bulletin, sponsored missionaries, attended regular services, Bible studies, revival meetings and participated in various church functions. She was a kind, caring individual whose beautiful smile touched many lives, and she will be sadly missed. Surviving are her devoted husband of nearly 65 years, Alvin P. Brode; one daughter, Fay Stanton and husband Allen, Midlothian; one son, Howard Brode and wife Nancy, Frostburg; four grandchildren, Trent Allen Stanton Sr., Midlothian, Amanda Joy Groves and husband Ronald, Yellow Spring, W.Va., Daniel Alvin Brode and wife Eliza, Waterloo, Va., and Daniel DeGroot, Frostburg; seven great-grandchildren, Misty Dawn Brode, Whitney Ann Paugh, Chad Burton Burgess, Trent Allen Stanton Jr., Janice Kristine Burgess, Harold Fadeley Jr., and Wendy Brode. The family will receive friends at the Durst Funeral Home, 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral service will be conducted, as Mrs. Brode planned it, at the Trinity Assembly Of God Church, Midlothian, on Monday, Nov. 14, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Jimmie Blair officiating. The body will be taken to the church at 1 p.m. and available for viewing. Interment will be at the Frostburg Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Lloyd Duncan, Robert Duncan, Duane Flifflet, Larry Ritchie, Trent Stanton Sr., and Daniel Brode. Trinity Assembly of God Women's Missions Group will provide a meal for the Brode family, relatives, and friends in the church fellowship hall following the services. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in her name to the American Diabetes Association, Maryland Area Office, 3120 Timanus Lane, Suite 106, Baltimore, MD 21244, or to the Trinity Assembly of God, P.O. Box 607, Midlothian, MD 21543. Cumberland Times-News
