Sackets Harbor, March 21.--Mrs. Naomi J. Hazelwood, 82, died at her home, "Bedford Gardens," on the Henderson road, Wednesday evening at 5:30 after a long illness. Mrs. Hazelwood suffered a stroke a week ago, which hastened her death.
Born in Bishop street, Aug. 27, 1846, a daughter of the late Jacob and Lucy Ann Van Winckle, she had resided in this section allher life. She moved to her home in Bedford Gardens 48 years ago, where she had since resided.
She was a member of the Bishop street Methodist church but since moving to Bedfor Gardens had attended the Sackets Harber Methodist church. She was a member ofChestnut Beech Sewing Circle.
Residing with her at her home in, Bedford Gardens was her step son, Lewis P. Hazelwood, husband of Mrs. Phoebe Hazelwood, well known as the "silhouette lady." Bert S. Hazelwood, another step son resided only a few houses from her home.
Mrs. Hazelwood had been married twice, her first husband being the late Herbert Stevens, whom she married in 1872. He died in 1878. She married the late James Madison Hazelwood in 1881. He died may 18, 1918:
Besides her two step sons, Lewis P. and Bert S. Hazelwood, she is survived by on brother, William Van Winckle of Utoca; one sister, Mrs. Eugene Meclen of Bishop street; one adopted daughter, Mrs. John Huff of Syracuse, and two grandchildren, Julia Hazelwood, a student at Potsdam Normal school, and Perry Jones Hazelwood of Bedford Gardens. Julia Hazelwood is the daughter of Bert B. Hazelwood and Perry James is a son of Lewis P. Hazelwood.
Funeral services will be conducted from the home Saturday afternoon at 1:30 =. Rev. Mr. Nichols, pastor of the Sackets Harbor Methodist church, officiating. Interment will be in Sackets Harbor."
