Matt Lahti was born in Jalasjarvi, Vaasan Laani, Finland on Jan. 23, 1883. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in Finland and came to the United States in 1902. In 1916 he was united in marriage to Helen Makkonen. Mr. and Mrs. Lahti came to Urness twp., Douglas county in 1921, which has since been his home. Mrs. Lahti preceded him in death in 1950. Mr. Lahti died Tuesday, Sept. 6, 1966 at the age of 83 years. Surviving are four brothers: Gabriel of Plainesville, Ohio; John of Astoria, Ore.; August of Finland and Feelix, of Canada. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Sept. 13, 1966 at 2 p.m. from the Anderson Funeral Home, Alexandria with Rev. Philip Westby officiating. Interment was in the St. Paul's Lutheran cemetery, Moe township. Pallbearers were Edward Johnson, Alfred Aho, John Mattson, Wm. Lehto, Emil Lehto and James Pipo.
