SMITHSBURG — Pauline Jane "Podge" (Brown) Hahn, 88, of Greensburg Road, Smithsburg, died Thursday, March 10, 2011, at home. Her death was unexpected and attributed to natural causes.
Born Sept. 16, 1922, in Cascade, she was the daughter of the late Charles Wachter Brown and Esther Bland McGlaughlin.
She was the paternal granddaughter of Upton B. Brown and Clara Ellen Conrad, and the maternal granddaughter of Charles Herbert McGlaughlin and Amanda Marie Smith.
She and her late husband, Robert Charles Hahn Sr., were married March 15, 1941, in Blue Ridge Summit. Mr. Hahn died Oct. 11, 1994.
She graduated from Smithsburg High School in 1939.
Mrs. Hahn retired from Doubleday & Co. in 1979, supervisor of the proofreading department.
She is survived by three sons. Robert Charles Hahn Jr., John Michael "Mike" Hahn spouse Judith Ann Hartman and Richard Allen Hahn spouse Tonie D. Breckbeal, She is also survived by one sister, Joyce Ann Brown, and her husband, Herbert Hays Jr., of Shippensburg, Pa.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Gladys M. Huff, Edna B. Dixon and Miss Mary Geraldine Brown; three brothers, Herbert U. Brown, Charles L. Brown and Thomas C. Brown; and daughter-in-law, Linda Lou Fleagle Hahn.
Graveside services will be Thursday, March 17, 2011, at 2 p.m. at Bethel Cemetery, Cascade, with Pastor Virgil Cain officiating.
Arrangements were made by J.L. Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg.
