She was born February 6, 1934 in Altus, OK to the late Hermit and Louise Shook.

Lou married James Sullivan on December 31, 1977, who preceded her in death on May 21, 2012.

As a longtime resident of Vernon, Lou enjoyed serving in her community. She was instrumental in the establishment of the Paradise House and in 2005 was named co-recipient of the state mental health systems highest volunteer award –Volunteer Fundraisers of the Year. She devoted countless hours volunteering at the North Texas State Hospital and served on the Volunteer Services Council as president from 2006 – 2009. Lou participated in the Adopt-A-Kid Program and was a friend and mentor to many girls. She was also active in the Business and Professional Women's Club.

Lou was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Vernon, the Presbyterian Women of the Church and the Women's Mission Outreach Committee and always enjoyed baking when these groups served lunches to the high school youths.
Most of all, Lou loved helping her family and friends. She will always be remembered for her generosity, her caring heart and loving home.

Lou is survived by a daughter, Sabra Futrell and husband Brent of Dumas, Texas, two sons, Jimmie Helms and wife Debbie of Rockwall, Texas, and Mike King and wife Rhonda of Vernon, Texas. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren, two sisters, Jo Ann Tyra and husband, Gene, of Vernon, Texas, and Mary Sue Hutchinson and Hoyt of Bandera, Texas, stepdaughters, Linda Smith and Deborah Hildebrand of Arlington, Texas, four step-grandchildren, and 6 step-great grandsons.
Lou was preceded in death by her son, Robert Allen King in 2003.
Services will be held Wednesday, November 7, 2012 at 10:00 AM at Sullivan Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be at Wilbarger Memorial Park under the direction of Sullivan Funeral Home.

Visitation will be Tuesday, November 6, 2012 at 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Sullivan Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the Paradise House Box 2231, Vernon, Texas, 76385, BSA Hospice Box 950, Amarillo, Texas 79105, or a favorite charity.
