Funeral services for Mrs. Ethel M. Manuel was held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 17, 2006, at St. Anthony"s Catholic Church with burial to follow in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Father Tom Voorhies officiated. Mrs. Manuel, age 92 and a resident of Eunice, died on Wednesday, June 14, 2006, at 7:25 a.m. at her residence. She taught kindergarten at St. Edmund Elementary School for over 30 years. During that time, she served as President of the Mothers Club of St. Edmund. Mrs. Manuel was also very active in her church being a member of the Catholic Daughters for over 60 years.
During that time, she was Chairman of Charity for the association and was named Catholic Daughter of Year. Mrs. Manuel was also a member of the Ladies Alter Society and was named president for a term. She was also a member of the Supper Club and the Sewing Club. Mrs. Manuel was also known for her homemade yeast rolls that she made for the school fair. She also loved gardening and on many occasions was picked for the garden of the week. Also, many times she would supply flowers straight from her yard for several occasions such as confirmations and Catholic Daughter events. Mrs. Manuel was preceded in death by her husband, Delues Manuel, her son, Frances Manuel, three brothers, Ellard, Liverty, and Larry Manuel, and a sister, Willa Beatty. The visitation was held at Ardoin's Funeral Home beginning on Friday, June 16, 2006, from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and again on Saturday, June 17, 2006, from 8:00 a.m. until time of services. A rosary was prayed Friday evening at 7:00 p.m. Survivors include a sister, Barbara Ann Manuel of Eunice; three nieces, Bridgette Aronson of Covington, LA, Rosalind Lafleur of Eunice, and Harryette Winn of West Monroe; and two nephews, Anthony Manuel of Springhill, LA, and Joe Beatty of Panama City, FL; and 10 great nieces and nephews.
