Columbiana-November 3, 2012-Dorothy Louise Swogger Manning of Columbiana, went to be with the Lord Saturday, November 3, 2012 after a long illness.

Mrs. Manning was born June 30, 1921 in Rogers, Ohio, a daughter of Benjamin C. and Adda Hawkins Gardner.

Mrs. Manning had lived most of her life in Lisbon before moving to Columbiana in 1989. While living in Lisbon, she was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Lisbon where she was church secretary. She held many offices in the church and was an active leader in the local and district United Methodist Women. She was also active in Coterie, The Lisbon Garden Club, Iva Chapter Order of Eastern Star, and the Lisbon Historical Society.

After moving to Columbiana, she became a member of the First United Methodist Church of Columbiana, The United Methodist Women, The Green Thumb Garden Club and the Columbiana Women's Club.

Her first husband, Kenneth H. Swogger, whom she married December 12, 1939, died May 20, 1983. Her second husband, William C. Manning, whom she married October 12, 1993, died July 3, 2007.

She is survived by two daughters, Janice (Jack) Dowd of Lisbon and Bonnie (John) Hamilton of Germantown, TN; two step-daughters, Linda (Dale) Burton of Lisbon and Renee (Blair) Hill of The Woodlands, TX; two step-sons, William "Kim" (Sue) Manning of Atlanta, GA and Jeffery (Charlene) Manning of Scottsdale, AZ; a sister, Betty Wenderoth of Columbiana; a brother, Robert F. Gardner of Lisbon; eight grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; and one great great granddaughter.

Besides her parents and spouses, she was preceded in death by a brother, James W. Gardner and her step-mother, Ruth Gardner.

Dorothy will be sadly missed by all of her family and friends. We all will remember her energy and enthusiasm for life and for serving the Lord.

Private family services will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, November 7, 2012 at the Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home, Columbiana with Reverend Pamela Gable officiating. Burial will follow in Lisbon Cemetery. No calling hours will be observed.

Material tributes may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Lisbon or the First United Methodist Church of Columbiana.
