REX EUGENE "BUCK" MASON

Rex Eugene "Buck" Mason, 76, of Milan, Mo., passed away Thursday morning, April 27, 2006 at the Apple Ridge Care Center in Waverly, Mo. Rex was born Aug. 9, 1929 in Corydon, Iowa, the son of Dewey Eldon and Neva Alta (McCarty) Mason.

Rex graduated from Corydon High School and later attended Iowa State in Ames to study engineering. He was also a member of the U.S. Army from 1948 to 1951. On May 4, 1957, he married Barbara Laverne Voss of Pella.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara, of the home, four children, Doyle Mason, Milan; Vicki Wolf and husband Tom, Wheeling, Mo.; Jerry Mason and wife Teresa, Edina, Mo.; and Misti Hodge and husband Carson, Milan; nine grandchildren; three brothers, Dewey and wife Charlene, Milan; Kenneth and wife Angela, Bartlett, Ill.; Harvey and wife Norma, Boynton; five sisters, Sharon Weaver, Milan; Anita Pipes and husband Marvin, Cora; Marilyn McClaren, Kansas City, Mo.; and Deanna Mason and Shirley Helms, both of Milan; and several nieces and nephews.

Rex was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Ronald Mason of Springfield, Mo.

Rex worked as a surveyor in road construction in Missouri, Iowa, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois and Kentucky and also worked overseas in Indonesia for a period of time. He retired in 1991. He was a member of the American Legion and Sullivan Country Club. Rex loved golfing with his family and friends, collecting coins, listening to country music, bowling and researching his ancestors.

A family visitation was held Sunday evening at Schoene-Ruschmeier Funeral Home in Milan with a memorial service following at 10 a.m. Monday, May 1, 2006 at the funeral home. Interment was held at 1:30 p.m. at the New York Cemetery near Millerton, Iowa with military rites at graveside by members of the American Legion Post 228 in Milan.
