Samuel Buren Jackson, 84, of Jonesboro, AR., died peacefully November 3, 2012, at his home.

He was born in Goobertown, Arkansas, September 30, 1928, to Ruel and Bertha Jackson.

Buren graduated from Green County High School and attended Arkansas State University and University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg, Missouri.

Buren retired from the Arkansas State Police with the rank of major in 1988 after serving 33 years. After retirement, he was a realtor in the Little Rock area for 10 years.

He had been a member at Woods Chapel United Methodist Church for many years and a current member at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Jonesboro, AR. He was a Master Mason, and a member of the Lake City Lodge.

He was preceded in death by his brother: Ruel David Jackson.

Buren is survived by his wife of 64 years, Ruth Sheffield Jackson, his daughter, Carolyn J. Hames and husband Ron, of Spring, TX, his son, Robert (Bob) S. Jackson and wife Peggy, of Paragould, Arkansas, a brother, Thomas D. Jackson and wife Della, of Jonesboro; six grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Geraldine Jackson and Charlene Diggs, three brothers, Paul Jackson, Marlin Jackson and David Jackson and two infant great grandchildren.

Funeral services were at Emerson Memorial Chapel, Jonesboro. Burial was at the Woods Chapel Cemetery.
