William R. "Bill" Overbey, 77, of Topeka, died November 2, 2012 at Aldersgate Village Nursing Home.

He was born on April 8, 1935 in Topeka, Kansas, the son of William M. and Hazel (Becker) Overbey.

Bill served in the Naval Reserve. He was an Electrician for IBEW Local #226. He was a member of Mater Dei Holy Name Parish, Knights of Columbus and the IBEW Local #226 Union. Bill enjoyed wood working.

He married Catherine L. Powell on July 30, 1955 in St. Marys, Kansas. She preceded him in death on July 3, 1999.

He is survived by a sister, Barbara Sample of Ennis, TX, daughter, Susan M. Yee of Chandler, AZ, five sons, William J. Overbey of Hays, KS, Patrick T. Overbey of Topeka, Timothy J. Overbey of Topeka, Daniel R. Overbey of Lafayette, LA, and Steven E. Overbey of Shell Knob, MO. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Bill will lie in state on Monday after 2:00 p.m. at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, where a Parish Rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Mater Dei Holy Name Parish. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
