Woodrow Bradford was the youngest child of Samuel L. Bradford and Ruhamia Hensley, born and raised on his parents' farm in the Little Creek (Lewisburg area) of Ramsey Township, Yancey Co., NC. He was noted age 6 in the 1920 Census and age 17 in the 1930 census living with his parents in Ramsey Twp., Yancey Co., NC. When his father died in 1928, he bequethed to Woodrow and his brother Arthur jointly the general store and the land upon which it sat. The store is now gone but was located on the corner of Bradford Road and Little Creek Roads. In the 1940 Ramsey Twp., Yancey Co., NC Census, Woodrow was single and the head of the household. Living with him were his sister, Lucinda, and her 2nd husband Mack Hensley and their children Jamison, Jennifer and Brooks. WWII broke out and he enrolled in the 2nd Army on February 20, 1941, serving as Private and trained at Fort Bragg, NC. His service record upon enlistment showed that he was single, no dependents, two years of High School and 72 inches tall / 170 lbs. We was promoted to Tec 5 (Corporal). He served for 4 years and received an "Honorable Discharge" on September 17, 1945. After the War, he moved to the Detroit area, along with several other Bee Log/Spivey relatives, to work in the auto factories. He had a home in Algonac just outside of Detroit on the US-Canadian border. Family said he was sort of a recluse and lived alone. He never married and no known children. Sadly, in 1973 he was found dead in his home in Algonac, St. Clair Co., Michigan and the cause of death was chronic alcohol abuse. His brother Andy and his nephews went to Detroit to claim his body, gather his belongings and bring him to Spivey Mountain, Unicoi Co., TN to lay to rest on Andy's farm. Woodrow was the 2nd person laid to rest at the Bradford Cemetery. His brother, Andy, married Pearl Lee Hensley, daughter of Howell Hensley, the former owner of the farm and land upon which the cemetery currently sits. Andy died 13 months later.
